The season is finally over. It has been a long year for me, starting out in Sacramento and working my way back to Midland this year. I feel like I have finally turned it around, just in time for the playoffs.
The Rockhounds just finished up a long road trip to Corpus Christi and Frisco. We lost three out of four to Corpus, but turned it around in Frisco winning four out of five. We ended up winning to second half of the season as well as the first. Unfortunately the rules for the playoffs change for this year. Instead of receiving a bye for the first round, winning the second half only got us home field advantage. This means we get the fifth game of the first series at home.
Today we had a day off, where I spent the entire day watching movie for free complementary of the Tall City Theatre here in Midland. It’s a nice little deal the Rockhounds management set up for the players. I saw three movies; Transporter 2, The Cave, and The Great Raid. I enjoyed them all, but none of them were really that spectacular, though The Great Raid was based on a true story, which made it the best of the three.
Tomorrow is the first game of a best of five series we have against the San Antonio Missions. It should prove to be a good series, but I feel like we have the upper hand, since we have beat them head to head this year. It should be a favourable match up for us. After we win the first round, we shall play either Tulsa or Arkansas. I am pulling for Tulsa, since I was born there. I really would like to go back home and see how the city has changed.
Now that the season is over I need to start looking for a winter ball job. I have to find another way to make some money for the off season, after struggling through to season on the minor league pay scale. It’s going to be really hard, having to spend more time away from my wife, but money doesn’t grow on trees. There are a few leagues to choose from, Puerto Rice, Mexico, Venezuela, and The Domican Republic. Although there are so many leagues it is actually pretty hard to find a job. Right now I think I have an offer from a team in Mexico and maybe a chance with a team in Puerto Rico. I say “think” because there is no real guarantee with most of these teams.
That is all the time I have for now and I need to get some rest for the game tomorrow. Wish me luck.
